James Lick Middle School Teacher Honored as ‘Symetra Hero in the Classroom’
Symetra Financial, Wells Fargo and the San Francisco 49ers honored San Francisco school teacher Catherine Perez as a “Symetra Hero in the Classroom” on Sept. 12, 2011 during a special faculty meeting. Perez teaches sixth grade math and science at James Lick Middle School in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood.
“Cathy Perez is an amazing teacher who truly cares about her students’ successes,” said Heather Weeks Sampior, the parent of one of Perez’s former students. “In my son’s case, she quickly recognized that it was best for him to have his most challenging subjects, math and science, in the morning when he is freshest and most alert. She then took it upon herself to ensure that his schedule was adjusted accordingly for all three middle school years.” Sampior nominated Perez for the Symetra Hero in the Classroom award.
Perez is one of 16 K-12 teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area who were honored for educational excellence in the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program during the 2011 NFL season.
