James Lick Middle School Dress Code

The James Lick Middle School dress code was developed to establish a friendly and professional atmosphere that promotes pride, respect and safety for the students and staff. As a family of professionals, our basic standard for students is to dress as if they were coming to work and take pride in their appearance. School is a place of business. Education is the student’s job. Furthermore, we have observed that these standards minimize visible gang affiliation, are less expensive, require less time to get ready in the morning, and create less division based on students’ family income.  We depend on parental support to uphold our dress standards.

The following dress code guidelines will be enforced daily at James Lick Middle School.  PLEASE READ THIS POLICY CAREFULLY AS THERE ARE CHANGES FROM LAST YEAR.

Polo Shirts:
Only white polo shirts are allowed, short-sleeved or long-sleeved. Button-down shirts, basketball jerseys, athletic wear, and PE clothing are not acceptable as part of the uniform.  Students who participate in school sports may wear their JLMS jerseys to show school spirit during their game days only.

Undershirts may be white or black, with no writing visible.  Other colors are not allowed.

All pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts must be plain DARK black, not faded. These must fit at the waist (no sagging); must be hemmed; and must not be shorter than 1” above the knee. Stretch pants, sweat pants, soccer pants (with stripes),  leggings, and athletic pants of any type are not acceptable pants.  PE clothing must be worn in PE class only.
